Meeting with Rei who is going to be a
'3D environment expert artist' <Part 2>
Look for works by artists that
motivate me.
In my spare time, I often find myself exploring the artworks of other talented artists. This activity not only broadens my imagination but also serves as a great source of inspiration for generating my own ideas. By immersing myself in the diverse styles of these artists, I am able to enhance and refine my own artistic style. Moreover, I am incredibly grateful for the unwavering support and encouragement I receive from my family and my girlfriend, who happens to share the same passion for 3D art as me. Their presence in my life serves as a constant motivation for me to push myself even harder. I truly appreciate their continuous support and encouragement. Overall, delving into the world of art and having such support has truly enriched my artistic journey.
Please introduce your favorite artist or designer.
First, I think of the French artist Michael Vicente. I drew a lot of inspiration from their game environment graphic style. There are many things to refer to in terms of game elements details and style. He also shares a sculpting brush pack for free, which is quite helpful.
Secondly, there's Jasmin Habezai, an artist whose work gives me a feeling of "Wow, I want to go there." That's the feeling I want to capture. Even though it's a virtual world, their art doesn't feel too detached, and it makes me want to be there.
Lastly, there's the product designer Smeaf, who excels in creating 3D animations. I've tried incorporating some of the effects used in their promotional videos into my beverage promotion video. Also, they provide Blender tutorials on YouTube, which I consider the best among the Blender classes I've taken.

What are the challenges or concerns you face while pursuing a career as an artist or
while preparing for employment?
I have three main observations while working on personal projects and preparing for employment.
Firstly, there is no specialized 3D environment art education program in my country, and it seems there is limited support for general artists. While I'm working on building my portfolio and studying to prepare for employment, I've realized that creating work optimized for seamless execution in games requires a lot of specialized skills. Learning these skills takes a considerable amount of time. One of my goals is to shorten the time it takes to complete a project. Additionally, many aspects often need adjustments within the scene, making it an ongoing process of improvement rather than a one-and-done task.
Secondly, I've noticed that companies nowadays seem to prioritize applicants' experience and career history over assessing their potential. It's a bit disappointing from that perspective.
Lastly, there's the issue of how artists are perceived. As technology makes art creation more accessible, there's a growing perception that anyone can become an artist easily. With AI technology, this perception seems to be even more prevalent. As you know, becoming an artist requires tremendous patience, effort, creativity, and innovation. Continuous learning is essential to showcase these qualities. I hope that the government recognizes the efforts of artists and provides more support for them.
First, I must consistently strive for the goals I desire.
What does it take to become a good or successful artist?
To achieve your goals, it seems essential to have a consistent effort, and for that, you need to know how to manage yourself well. It's almost like self-discipline if you will (laughs). Additionally, creativity also appears to be a necessary quality.
What is your current goal, and what are you doing to achieve it?
I'm currently working towards gaining experience as a 3D Environment Artist abroad, and I'm building my skills to meet the requirements specified in job postings. I've set a minimum of 3 hours studying per day and focus entirely on my tasks. I strive to accomplish my daily goals no matter what it takes. After completing tasks with such concentration, I reward myself by indulging in my favorite games, foods, or items as a way to treat myself.
